Washington, D.C. / New York — September 2025 — The Global Solar Council (GSC) officially expanded its mandate to become the world’s first global trade association for battery energy storage, signaling a shift from solar-only advocacy toward broader leadership in the integrated solar + storage industry.

Key Highlights

• The announcement occurred during New York Climate Week and the 80th United Nations General Assembly, coinciding with the release of GSC’s “Connecting the Sun” report.
• GSC’s new role is to promote battery manufacturing, deployment, recycling, and advanced technologies (e.g. grid-forming inverters), and to push for national storage strategies and reward grid flexibility services.
• The organization aims to “de-risk” solar + storage investment in developing markets, and to advocate for better regulatory and market frameworks around the world.
